What RCS adds to SMS
RCS (Rich Communication Services) is the upgrade to SMS on Android phones, delivered through the Google Messages app. Instead of plain text, a business can send a verified, branded message with images, product carousels and tap-to-reply buttons, and see when it has been read.

What is RCS?
RCS stands for Rich Communication Services, a modern messaging standard that replaces plain SMS with images, buttons and verified business profiles in the phone’s default messaging app.
Is RCS the same as WhatsApp?
No. RCS works in the phone’s built-in messaging app and doesn’t need a separate app, while WhatsApp needs the WhatsApp app. Many businesses use both, plus SMS.
Does RCS work on iPhones?
Support on iPhones is more limited and depends on the phone’s software and the mobile network. That is why we recommend SMS fallback.
